Jellyfin Trickplay Generator
Generates trickplay images used by Jellyfin to show previews when scrubbing through a video.
Thumbnails are extracted from the working file using FFmpeg every 10 seconds, scaled to 320 pixels wide, and combined into images of 10x10 thumbnails, matching Jellyfin's default trickplay settings.
Save trickplay images next to media must be enabled in the Jellyfin library settings.
Recommended Jellyfin library trickplay settings:
| Setting | Value | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Enable trickplay image extraction | Off | Jellyfin uses the images on disk and never generates its own. |
| Extract trickplay images during the library scan | On | Picks up the images during a library scan. With extraction off, this does not generate any images. |
| Save trickplay images next to media | On | Required, Jellyfin only looks for these images next to the media when this is enabled. |
Jellyfin will pick up the images during the next library scan, or when the Generate Trickplay Images scheduled task runs.
This flow element does not require the Jellyfin plugin settings to be configured, it only creates the images.
Destination
The folder to save the trickplay folder in.
If left blank, it will be saved in the same folder as the input file.
Destination Name
The name of the trickplay folder.
If left blank, the original filename will be used with a .trickplay extension.
The .trickplay extension will be added if missing.
This supports variables.
For example, for /movies/My Movie (2024)/My Movie (2024).mkv the following will be created:
/movies/My Movie (2024)/My Movie (2024).trickplay/
320 - 10x10/
.jellyfin-trickplay
0.jpg
1.jpg
...
Any existing 320 - 10x10 images in that folder are replaced.
Jellyfin looks for the trickplay folder next to the video using the video's name, so only change the destination or name if you know the video will end up there.
