Compute VMAF

The Compute VMAF task compares a transcoded file to a source reference file and returns a VMAF quality score.

VMAF analysis can be CPU-intensive. Using Forge lets you offload this work to a more powerful machine, so it does not impact other runner performance on the same processing node.

Why You Would Use It​

  • Measure quality impact after transcoding.
  • Compare encoding settings with a consistent quality score.
  • Make automation decisions based on objective quality results.

What It Returns​

Forge returns a VMAF score used by the flow element.
